Help establish a consistent bedtime routine for your child

What is the right routine for my child?

Starting Your Routine (It's Easy!)

Ask any parent, doctor, teacher or other expert, and they'll tell you that there are two key ingredients in establishing a routine for your child:

  1. Consistency
Consistency is important as you establish your child's routine. Everyone who takes care of your child (Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa) must follow the same routine. If your mom or dad watches your child for a day and disregards the routine (for instance letting them stay up late or miss their nap), then your child becomes confused and it may take several days to get them back on schedule.

  2. Commitment
Routines don't just happen overnight. They are built on a series of habits, and it typically takes several weeks of daily repetition for a habit to become engrained in your child's life. Once a routine becomes engrained, however, it is something that they will want to do every day.
Books and programs give you plenty of information on why routines are important, and most of them give you a list of steps to follow on a daily or weekly basis. While the list of steps varies from book to book, the result is always the same – you are the one who has to implement the changes and get your child on a routine.

Make it Easy – We've already done the hard work for you

If you're like most parents, consistency does not come easily and sticking with anything for several weeks is almost impossible. KC's Day and KC's Bedtime make it easy by doing the work for you. Everyone can see your child's routine, making it easy to stay consistent. Your child will actually enjoy taking part in their routine, anticipating each step and wanting to follow along with KC the Fox throughout their day.

Here's why it works:

  1. Children learn best through images.
Children have an amazing ability to recognize and relate to images. Your child will enjoy watching KC the Fox perform each daily activity. Because KC is an independent party (and because kids love to imitate what they see), your child will want to do the same thing KC is doing. If your child strays from their routine, it's easy to ask "What is KC doing?"

  2. Your child can see their routine (and so can everyone else).
Your child can anticipate each step in their daily or bedtime routine, because their routine is visually organized on the Routine poster. Transitions between tasks can cause anxiety and confusion in children, so being able to see the next step will serve as both a reminder and a comfort to your child. Just as important, when grandma (or daddy) watches your child on a Saturday, they will be able to see when and what activities your child does each day. They will understand that dinner starts at 5:30 and that your child goes to bed at 8.

  3. Your child will want to own their routine.
Each Routine poster is personalized with your child's name, which helps your child identify the routine as belonging to them.

  4. It's ready to use as soon as you get it.
Use the quick start guide (included in each kit) and the other resources available on our website to create a routine for your child. You can be up and running the same day you receive our kit.

  5. You can place it almost anywhere.
Your Routine poster and stickers use a special adhesive that is designed to work on any sealed surface (e.g. painted walls, doors, mirrors, cabinets) without leaving a residue.

  6. It grows with your child.
Thanks to a special adhesive, you can rearrange the activity stickers as many times as you want. Your kit also includes an erasable marker, so that you can change times on your activity stickers as often as necessary.
